Elder Scrolls: Blades Game Review : Part 1
This will be a few part series but I wanted to start this out with playing almost every day for a week a few hours a day.
So starting off I sadly didn't get into the early play like some, so I had to wait until the launch day for early access and even then I had to wait a day or two before I could gain access to it and start playing. It was a decent sized game so I had to clear some space on my phone in order to play it, mostly because I don't have a lot of space since I have taken a ton of photo's and yet to move them off.
The customization of your character is basic. You have your same picks like the Khajiit, Elf, and Breton. As you can see, I chose the Khajiit (as I usually do) and went through the customization which sadly didn't take me as long as it usually does when playing console. I can spend an hour or more when playing Skyrim or TES Online because of the vast customization you have. In Blades, you get to pick the type instead of adjusting each individual section. I was slightly disappointed with that.
Now if you're used to playing Skyrim, Morrowind, Oblivion, or Online...don't expect anything like that. The controls for the game are wonky. You have the option of playing either landscape or portrait. When in portrait, you tap on the screen to lead your character and drag along the screen in the direction you want to look. When in landscape you have the option to use the joystick on the phone to move and rotate the camera. I actually find playing in portrait is a lot easier than landscape but that is my preference. When in battle, the fighting controls in portrait is also weird as you can't just attack as you see fit. You have to hold down and wait until the circle on your screen is at a good point to attack. In order to fight, you have to approach the enemy or let them spot you so no running up and doing some awesome sneak attack, which is something I love to do in Skyrim, especially with a bow and arrow.
Your inventory is similar to what you would usually have on console/PC, however, the only downfall is you can't carry food. Food is your ONLY source of health in the game so if you favor the health regeneration, that is not an option. At least, not that I can see. Finding loot is also annoying as it shows you basically where to go to find it and as usually, you either get something or you don't. It just requires you to hit it and figure it out. It doesn't say empty.
I've played enough that I'm at a level six and that's a lot based on what you have to do in the beginning of the game. Leveling up is similar to Skyrim or Online; you get to raise your health, magic, or stamina by 10 points and then you pick a skill to work on.
You can find chests throughout your journey and they will take a few minutes to open or a few hours to open. I think the longest chest I've had to wait on was 6 hours. I'm currently not able to progress too far because I'm not at a high enough level to fight the two missions given, and with that, I keep dying. So I'm having to do other things to try and level up and raise my armor and weapon in order to do the two missions I need to do.
Now you do get to build your own town and that has a level of it's own, too. Right now my town is at a level two I believe. You do get to name your town but it warns you to be careful as you cannot change it. You start off with basic structures and you gather resources to build the buildings where you want them, and later you get to change the looks as your progress with your town. This is a shot of my town hall.
The graphics on the game are amazing. I have a Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus, and it runs smoothly. There is no talking however unlike the other games, so I'm annoyed by that.
I've only ran into a few minor glitches that really didn't affect the game, but it made me chuckle that even on a mobile game we find similar glitches that you would on console/PC.
When I had posted the shots in excitement on my Facebook, someone had mentioned the fact it was filled with micro-transactions. You don't have to pay to play the game, and you really don't have to pay to advance in the game like most. Unless you're the type who can't handle waiting on a chest to unlock in 3 to 6 hours, I haven't even had a thought of wanting to buy something come across my mind and this is honestly a game I might put some money into later on. In an article I read somewhere off Google, they stated to wait to put any money into the game until later on, and I whole heartily agree. There is really no reason to spend money on the game just yet unless you want to but thankfully this isn't one of the mobile games you have to pay to advance in. At least so far, my experience has been wonderful playing this game.
Once I advance a little more within the game I will post a part two.
