Weekly Catch Up
I'm a little behind on this and that was my fault as I had A LOT to do these past few days.
My last post was on October 31st, Halloween. So it's been a week exact since I have posted a blog. So let's catch up with what happened!
Thursday:
Thursday wasn't anything spectacular as it was just doing school work. Something did happen that sucked however. I had to go to the library Thursday night to do school work. Still didn't have internet back yet so I was having to go to the next best option. I spent 30 minutes at the library trying to get my laptop to connect to the Wifi there because it just refused so I had to do my super technology skills to do that and finally get it to hook up. During all that, my girlfriend and her mother had the car to drop off the kids and do a few things before coming back and the car died. This is the night before we were supposed to leave for ThyGeekdom Con. My girlfriend's uncle came, swapped out the battery, and we thought we were good. However, the battery light still refused to go off. Underlying problem obviously, right? So we drove home. The car seemed fine other than the fact that battery light
Friday:
That next morning, my girlfriend's mother was going to go pick up some money from someone, when the car died again. She sat on the road for a good 8 hours or so before someone could come and get her and fix the car. My first guess, alternator. So that got switched out and repaired, and by then it was 8 at night and I missed my first shift. I was super upset by it but there was nothing I could do. It was out of my control. Thankfully, Candy (who I volunteered under basically) was very understanding.
Saturday:
We were up bright and early. The car was running smoothly. Headlights were brighter, didn't make the awful whine of a noise at times, could pick up speed better, and had better gas mileage despite still having a spare tire on. Her mom went and dropped off our dog at one of her friend's house, and came back. Said the car was still running beautifully. So we packed up, and started a 2 hour drive to Oaks. About 30 - 45 min into the drive I thought I kept seeing a light on the dashboard flashing but I just wasn't sure, then it happened. The battery light came on. I immediately turned the heat off, dimmed the dashboard lights (because it was raining and the sun hadn't completely come up yet), and just left the headlights and windshield wipers on. They didn't swap out the battery after all that, so I figured it was just a very screwed up battery after being drained by the alternator the day prior. The trip went decent there, the battery light being the only issue.
ThyGeekdom Con:
We arrived, had to find a parking place, walk a bit to the doors in wind that made it IMPOSSIBLE to breath in or even see for that matter, and entered the con. This was MUCH different than the con we went to in June, Sci-Fi Valley Con, where I had also volunteered. Sci-Fi Valley Con was two different levels; Artists and Guests on the lower floor with the food court and the vendors, panels, and other tables on the top floor. ThyGeekdom Con was one solid floor in one big open space, the panels being separated by curtains and the artists and vendors all sort of mixed in one area in the middle of the room. Guests were off to the far right of the con, and the main stage was buried in the corner with one food vendor that I could see. Saturday I did registration and then that night I just sort of bounced everywhere. That day I met some really awesome people and really got to know them. They were nice and friendly, and very welcoming....just minus the fact they kept using female pronouns except Trixal who later talked to me about my pronouns and given name. I met Sean who was a very funny guy and I never got to get a lap dance from him, which I was pretty sad about as was my girlfriend. Sunday was a free day for me and I got to wonder around and look at everything as well as attend the panel Megan Shipman, who is a very lovely and wonderful lady and gave my girlfriend some really good advice on how to get started on her voice acting she wants to do. I met Matthew Atchley who I shared a drawing I did of Daryl Dixon played by Norman Reedus and got some wonderful and helpful tips from him on how to get my name out there. He was an AMAZING person and I was so very thankful to have stopped and talked to him for those few minutes. As the night was ending, my girlfriend took me over to the 501st Legion to look at the Star Wars stuff and that was when a life changing moment happened to me.
The 501st Legion:
I walked up amazed by the Star Wars gear, helmets, blasters, and everything else at their table. I started talking about how I was always drawn to the dark side of the force and Vader was my first real big inspiration and love in the movies. We talked about how watching the movie's wasn't by starting with 1 and going to 8 but more how they were originally made; A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith, The Force Awakens, and then The Last Jedi. They gave me information and told me to join the Dark Side.....and I have. I have signed up and registering with The 501st Garrison Carida which is the chapter in Central and Eastern PA. I have already chosen my costume and everything so I am excited to start on that. My mother is extremely happy for me and can't wait to see my progress in this.
Sunday:
So when it was all said and done and we had to leave, we already knew the car troubles that was happening. It stalled on us Saturday when we left con for my break when my girlfriend plugged her phone in, but not completely stalled. It was alive enough that when I hit the gas really hard it sent a nice charge to the battery. The headlights and interior lights like to dim and brighten, car just all around struggles. How we made it back home and everything still shocks me but we did.
The rest of the week has been mostly working on school work now we have internet back and FISD stuff. I'm starting my research on what to buy first and everything and will need to start saving up to buy those things, which means, a part time job or something. Maybe start selling my artwork and using that to save up for the materials needed for my costume.
So that was it! My week in a nutshell.
I will be writing a blog later this week, probably tomorrow night actually, talking about something else as well as I scored a B.E.T.A code for Fallout 76 and I will be reviewing that!
